feeling tired

Hey Everyone!!

Well Matt, Peter and I JUST got home from working at Blessings! We were the last ones to leave, I put a couple skids of stuff away while the guys strapped a Narnia display board to the roof of Matt's truck...we had to drive home very slowly (and I think we still lost a couple pieces). But yeah, it was good. Lots of work! I bought three books that I'm excited about reading...when I get time!
So today I was supposed to move to Maeghan and L.A.'s house, but they ended both having to work, so let's pray that it all works out for tomorrow.
I have three job interviews on Monday, and the stupid thing is the first and last one are in the same shopping centre, but the middle one is an hour's walk from there! So I'll be walking lots, trying not to be too sweaty for the interviews. I really want to get the job at PetSmart! That'd be SO fun.
Not much else is new. At least not that I can remember at almost 2 in the morning. Although I supposed 'technically' it's only almost 1, this is the PERFECT weekend to gain an hour of sleep! I should go enjoy it...
NIGHT!

a bit more of an explanation

Well what happened, I came to Ontario to visit my friends and I fell in love with this place and the people. Simple as that.

The more complicated story goes as follows: I didn't feel comfortable travelling a) alone, b) on the freighter c) in the winter and d) I felt that it was time for me to leave BC for a while...and I thought that Europe was the only option.

My friend Matt suggested to me, do I think that if God had told me to move to Ontario I would've listened? I conceded, no I wouldn't have. So maybe he suggested, He had me come to Ontario, to reveal His plan to me-one that I wouldn't have listened to otherwise.

I agree.

The day I decided to stay, I had a job lined up for three days, and two new roommates. Isn't God amazing? Now don't take offence to this, I have never connected with people (my own age) as well as I have with these young adults. Never. Granted, yes a few of you are great friends...but I mean like a group of friends (I'm thinking mostly college & career at MRAC here) It's incredible, and everyone who is in the group has said the same thing, they never knew friends like this until they moved here
and met their new friends. Some people would say it's foolish for me to move across the country for friends and fresh faces.

I disagree.

I think living here is going to challenge me in ways I couldn't be challenged either back home or in Europe. In both of those places, I had family to fall back on, places to go, a job I could easily return to. Not here. Now I actually have to budget, pay rent, look for a job, get my license (yes, get my license)...more responsibilities than I've
ever had before. I mean, the license (and eventually a car) won't be at the top of my list, I'll obviously need to take everything one step at a time, but I honestly feel that I've taken a step in the right direction.

Today I dropped off my resume at Chapters, Famous Players, Fitness Source, PetSmart & Timmy's-I most likely have a job at Timmy's, I have an interview on Monday at PetSmart and I picked up applications from another 1/2 dozen places. I'll be out again tomorrow, but with a warmer jacket this time!

Tonight I have my young adults care group, they're called LifeTogether's, and we're talking about who we are and what legacy we want to leave. It's held at my friend Matt's house where I'm staying until Saturday when, if all goes according to plan, I move in with L.A. and Maeghan.

I'm so excited for what God has in store, I pray that you can be
excited with me and I thank you for your continued prayers-even when I
do irrational things like this. Thanks for caring!!

Love Niki :) :)

i live in Hamilton

Okay, so due to popular demand (courtesy of my mom...) I'm back online with this blog. Not too much new to report, I worked the last two days at Blessings (setting up for a big sale) in Burlington with my new roommate. If all goes according to plan I'll move in with L.A. and Maeghan on Saturday. Then I work again Saturday night doing tear down, yes for grunt work!
I'm back at the LeaKer's tonight and hopefully I'll get an amazingly good sleep. Weird to think that if I were still going to Europe I'd be in Montreal sleeping on a freighter. Bizarre. But you know what? I'm totally at peace with staying here and I'm excited for what will happen.
Tomorrow night we have Bible study here at Matt's, but before I can enjoy that I have a day full of job hunting to do. Although I've worked at Blessings for a few days, I don't know that I'll necessarily get a job there-so I'm going to hand in my resume at a bunch of places. Pray that that goes well.
I'm thankful that everyone is being so supportive of my decision to move here. I know it seems crazy, I can't tell you the number of people that have shouted in astonishment or just gaped with their jaws dropped to the floor when I told them I moved here, not only from Vancouver (which is crazy enough), but instead of going to Europe. It's funny. Even here in Hamilton though, everyone is being SO kind and doing whatever they can to help, a place to sleep, job leads, being great friends-man, I LOOOVE this place. Yeah, I'm crazy. I admit it.

No point to this blog anymore, I've cancelled my freighter.

DUDE!!

Okay, wow, so I went to Niagara Falls tonight. WOW. So cool!! It all started yesterday when Matt's friend Brock asked what I did during the day and I told him I walked around the neighbourhood, ran errands with Mrs. LeaKer, no sightseeing really. Then he asked how many time I'd been to Ontario, when I told him none he freaked out and said I just HAD to go see sights, specifically the Falls. So he also told everyone else, and they made a road trip out of it, and so that's what we did. I made a sloppy joe and potato salad picnic supper, and it was SO good! At least I thought so, well at least for never having made it before and having it not work out the way I wanted it to. But yeah, mmm. Awesome! After eating, in the freezing cold, we went down to the Falls, took a BUNCH of pictures, walked up Clifton Hill street, looked at some shops, ate dessert at the Rainforest Cafe, came back down along the Falls again and headed home. Sounds pretty quick, but we were gone for about 6 hours (probably about 2 or so was travelling time). It was sooooo cool, I'm going to have to come back in the winter to see the Christmas lights and in the summer to see the fireworks apparently. (I think they just want me to stay...)

I have seriously had SO much fun with Matt's friends, they're a really cool bunch of people. And I'm not just writing that because I think they may at some point get this blog address and come read this. They're not paying me either. A few of them even travel quite a way to be here, like an hour for some-crazy! But it's no wonder, they're a great bunch of people, and their friendships seem so genuine. Why don't we have that back in MR? Too bad. But I definitely look forward to coming back here again and getting to know these people some more.

So right now I'm just uploading the pictures onto my computer from my camera, so I can post them on here. It might take a while...so I'll go do something else for now and come back later to finish up. Until then...

BACK!!! So finally, like an hour later. GAH. So now I can post, now that the pictures are there. Two are of, obviously, the falls, and the third is of the group of us that went, back row is Brock, Peter & Matt, middle is Erin, Brandy & Wendy and front is me, LA and Megan. (sorry for any spelling errors on your names, guys!) SO MUCH FUN!

A few pictures

Just two trees I liked here in Ancaster. Enjoy!

Having fun hanging out with Matt & his friends, tomorrow night there's a bible study/potluck here at his house. You could also pray for Matt's car situation, his car got bumped on his way home from work today, he got the brunt of a five car domino effect. His car wasn't in the best shape and it now looks like its a write-off. He says he's fine, pray that it remains that way. Thanks so much!

I guess I'll update more when there's more to report. ~niki~

Ancaster, Ontario!

Hey Everyone!

Well I got into Ancaster okay...just a little late. The trip by train was BEAUTIFUL! The 'comfortability' on the other hand wasn't that good...but the scenery more than made up for it! I left on Friday at 5:30 from Vancouver and took a train to Toronto, with prolonged stops (that I remember the name of) in Jasper, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Capreol (ON) and then of course, Toronto. I think I rember stopping in 2 or 3 other places, small little towns-but I don't remember the names, and we were only there for a few minutes. Although, we did pass dozens of little train stations-some which looked like outhouses! I got some good pictures! We finally arrived in Toronto at 9 pm and then I grabbed by luggage, said goodbye to fellow passengers and ran to my next train, which was due to leave in 8 minutes. Due to leave. It was late...if there's one thing I've learned-Canada's rail system, bites!

Anyways, so I finally got to Aldershot at about 10:45 (instead of 10) and there was Matt, so patiently waiting! :) THANK YOU!!!! And then we went out for supper at Kelsey's at sometime after 11, stayed and talked and ate and then went to his place where I've taken over his sister's room. I haven't met her yet, but I'll be very thankful when I do! He's gone to work for the day and his mom and I are the only ones at home. She's very nice, I think I'm going to like it here! :) I know I will.

So, now for a few pictures:

1) me in Jasper (note the sign says the distance to Vancouver and also to Montreal, my starting point and ending point in Canada)

2) one of my favourite shots in the Rockies, from the train

3) just a cool scenery shot I liked, also from the train

4) one of those little 'outhouse' train stations I was writing about!

That's all for now, take care!

Love Niki

Okay, well I did previously start up a blog and it for some reason got all messed up and now I can't find it anymore! Oh well, I'll just start a new one, so here it is, voila!

I'm leaving today!! I can't believe it, but it's true! So I'm off to have a pancake breakfast and then pack up the last of my things before my parents and I go to Vancouver. I suspect I'll be spending a nice sum of money, I need to pick up a raincoat and a few little odds and ends. And then I guess my parents and I might have a Timmy's and spend a little time together before they take me to the train station.

My mother is reminiscing, for some reason (she doesn't know it either) she's pretty emotional about me leaving. I guess, every other time I went away she knew exactly where I was and how to get a hold of me. Not this time. And I'm not doing it to be a brat...I'm just excited for this adventure! So here's a quick recap, in case you don't know...

Oct 14-17 Take the VIA Rail Canadian from Vancouver to Toronto
Oct 17-24 Stay with some friends in Ancaster, ON
Oct 24-26 Hang out in Montreal, see some sights
Oct 26 Board freighter
Oct 27-Nov 4 TRAVEL THE WIDE OPEN SEAS! :) :) arr, matey!
Nov 5 Arrive in Hamburg, take a train to Switzerland
Nov 6 Go visit Grossmami & Grossvati (grandparents) and maybe Zueri relatives
Nov 7 Start exploring Europe!

I guess from there I'm just going to have to update each day, because as of right now, I have NO idea! :) (I know it's comments like that, that make my parents nervous) I bought a very extensive book on travelling in Europe, and I have a few maps and a lot of long days on that freighter, so I suspect I'll map out some good routes before I get there.

And now it's time to go eat that pancake breakfast and say, farewell! Until next time friends, God bless!!

Love Niki
