sappy music

I get so caught up in sappy music and being the girl I am, I find myself crying at the silliest things...like about an hour ago. CMT (country music TV station) was on and the show was "Dedications". For some reason, maybe it's my need to get my weekly (sometimes daily...) cry in, I watch this show and for the duration, I blubber like a goof. Some of the songs are very touching and I guess the reason I cry is because of the hope of experiencing friendships and a love like they describe, tears for past loves and friendships that have died, and acknowledging those special to me. So here, I dedicate some of my favourites:

First, to my mom who loves without holding back and dreams with everything she has...The world may not be perfect, but you have a great outlook on it and I love your passion for life, it's what drives me. This is my song for you: (albeit, written by Martina McBride...)

This one's for all you girls about thirteen
High school canbe so rough, can be so mean
Hold onto, on to your innocence
Stand your ground when everyone's giving in

This is for all you girls about twenty-five
In a little apartment, just trying to get by
Living on, on dreams and spaghetti-o's
Wondering where you life is gonna go

This one's for the girls
Who've ever had a broken heart
Who've wished upon a shooting star
You're beautiful the way you are
This one's for the girls
Who love without holding back
Who dream with everything they have
All around the world
This one's for the girls

This is for all you girls about forty-two
Tossing pennies into the Fountain of Youth
Every laugh, laugh line on your face
Made you who you are today

Dad, I remember when this song first came on the radio and you said it was one of your favourites. Since that day I've held the lyrics in this song close to my heart and when I "come close to selling out", I reconsider because I think about your love for me. Thanks for the push, here's 'our' song (written by Lee Ann Womack):

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

My friends, let's live life to it's fullest and don't blink! Thanks for the friendships that have come and gone, each one is a reminder of God's love for me, for us, and for a better life. Remember these words (from Kenny Chesney):

I turned on the evening news
Saw a old man being interviewed
Turning a hundred and two today
Asked him what's the secret to life
He looked up from his old pipe
Laughed and said "All I can say is."

Don't blink
Just like that you're six years old and you're taking naps and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your better half
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don't blink

I was glued to my tv and it looked like he looked at me and said
"Best start putting first things first."
Cause when your hourglass runs out of sand
You can't flip over and start again
Take every breathe God gives you for what it's worth

To those who have hurt me (by the way, I've forgiven you...this was just in the heat of the moment), by the Dixie Chicks:

Forgive, sounds good.
Forget, I'm not sure I could.
They say time heals everything,
But I'm still waiting

I'm through, with doubt,
There's nothing left for me to figure out,
I've paid a price, and i'll keep paying

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

I know you said
Why can't you just get over it,
It turned my whole world around
and i kind of like it

I made by bed, and I sleep like a baby,
With no regrets and I don't mind saying,
It's a sad sad story
That a mother will teach her daughter
that she ought to hate a perfect stranger.
And how in the world
Can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they'd write me a letter
Saying that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

Finally, to the man God has chosen for me, one of the sappiest love songs of all time. I pray that one day this will be our song, not that I expect an easy ride or for a simple look, or touch of the hand to solve all problems, but I do trust that God can and will bring me this man, my best friend. Wherever you may be, I am praying for you and trust that you will pray for me too. My favourite love song: (Alison Krauss)

It’s amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don’t say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes sayin’ you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd
Old Mr. Webster could never define
What’s being said between your heart and mine

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes sayin’ you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

  3. the things you admire most in the people who mean the most to you, are the same things about you that mean the most to those who love you.

you're an incredible friend, a dedicated and honouring daughter and a loving child of God. it is an honour just to share in your journey.
