NYC, here I come!

So...my friend Dave and I are nuts. We are leaving in...8 hours (that would be at 5 am) to go to...New York City!!! That in itself might be psychotic enough for some, but noooo we don't stop there. Let me set the stage (hahaha...stage, you'll get that part in a minute, hold tight):

Dave: Hey Niki, want to go see Screwtape Letters in theatre [note: "stage"]
Niki: Sure, that sounds like fun
Dave: Cool, well it's in New York
Niki: Woah, that's even more fun! I've never been to NY. Where in NY?
Dave: I'm not sure, but it should only take about 4 hours to get there

and the conversation continues. Basically I asked how long, he said what he thought, I thought that 4 hours was pretty long for only a couple hours, but heck it's NY and I get to see theatre! So I'm trying to figure out exactly how far it was, when we discover (thanks to Niki for checking the website) that not only is this play in New York, but it's in New York, New York. As in the city, as in a MUCH further drive. We've finally concluded that it may take us up to 10 hours, but we're still willing to go.

Slightly more psychotic? Yes. It gets better.

So in all this, I had asked Dave to purchase another ticket (because originally he only bought one, not knowing yet if I would go)...needless to say, by the time he got an opportunity to purchase one (I'm not blaming him here at all, merely stating a fact-it's been a busy week for him), there were none left. Problem is, he already has his AND he has me psyched for NYC. So now our new plan (being implemented in less than 8 hours now) is to do the following:

5am Leave from Niki's house and drive south
3pm Arrive in NYC and wait in line, in hopes that there is one remaining ticket-at this point we don't care if the seats are together
4:30pm Watch show...or tour NYC (possibly after scalping our one ticket)
7/8pm Leave from NYC and drive north
Sunday am...arrive at church, Dave will produce the morning service; Niki will teller and the day will go on as usual (for Dave that probably means work and for Niki it means a meeting after the service with the congregation, a meeting with the associate pastor regarding a ministry she's helping coordinate and hanging out with her bestest scrapbooking/engaged/game-loving friend in the world, Laura)

Now I've told this to a few people, in case I don't arrive back on Sunday morning, would someone please look for me at the side of a highway in NY? I may have gotten on Dave's nerve and he may have thrown me out. Pray that he doesn't though...because it'll be mighty cold out there.

Bedtime!!!! (oh yeah, and I'm currently babysitting-the joys of babysitting the landlord's baby!)

Love Niki

  1. that is awesome! I would totally go with you if I was in the area. Don't get lost, and remember, those guys selling genuine Rolex watches out of the back of their truck are probably just running a scam...although, just to be on the safe side, buy me two.

  3. I see the somber Germans haven't gotten to "pants'" and he's still game for crazy stuff...
now I need to know, did you see the play, tour NY city, get mugged, what?
Your Sire is getting nuttier than a fruitcake, your bro has a job at the autowreckers; he went to get parts so often, they offered him a job. He starts Monday. Yeeha! :) Kandy is hanging out with us and may come to church tomorrow, with furry hat and all.

  4. Well, to all you impatient parents...let me say this. Your Niki is sleeping soundly (and probably snoring) in her own bed currently...it is 5:52 AM.
Why am I not sleeping you may ask? Well, because I have to finish putting together a service for later this morning.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip. We drove through Pensylvania, New Jersey & New York. We discovered that NYC drivers are ABSOLUTELY insane...the city would save themselves alot of money by not painting lines on the roads...no one follows them anyway.

We DID manage to get two seats, and they happened to be next to eachother. The play was fantastic, we both agreed. A work of art by C.S. Lewis, and a great stage adaptation. (Though I am thankful that we weren't too far forward for the shower the actors were providing with their saliva!)
We plan to go back to see the sights. The empire state building, the statue of liberty, times square, madison square gardens, a subway (for Dave, since he's spent most of his life under a rock) and the ocean (again, purely for Dave, who has never taken in the sea-salty-air.

Nik, thanks for coming along. It was great to have the company...and I now know what to get your future husband for a wedding gift...ear plugs (I think everyone on the I-90 knew you were asleep.) Oh, and next time, lets have dinner in a 'lounge'!

    Memories to Cherish (or supress):
    "I wish I had a small american"
"We didn't get to see intercourse"
"I thought you saw a naked man"

  5. those non forgettable lines at the end wouldn't have been spoken by our darling and graceful daughter, would they? You didn't know sch can be a liitle noisy when she sleeps? Maybe she needs to get her nose and throat looked at again. She had her tonsils out at 4 yrs., because they almost closed off her air passage when she slept.
I thought you meant earplugs because of her love to communicate.
She sure has a zest for life, .... oh hi Nicole, we were just talking about you....:)
